Trivia
- Origin: Although commonly associated with Japan, sudoku actually has its roots in a game called "Number Place," which appeared in a US magazine in 1979. The name "sudoku" is an abbreviation of the Japanese phrase "Sūji wa dokushin ni kagiru," meaning "the numbers must be single."
- Popularity: Sudoku became extremely popular in Japan in the 1980s and finally achieved worldwide fame in the early 2000s. This is largely due to a Japanese man named Maki Kaji, known as the "father of sudoku."
- Number of combinations: A traditional 9x9 sudoku has approximately 6.67 x 10^21 (6670903752021072936960) possible solutions. However, when considering symmetries and other restrictions, the number of unique configurations is significantly reduced to 5472730538.
