Calendar derives from "calendas", which is a word from Ancient Rome and it referred to the first day of the roman calendar. Another freak name related to original calendar was "nonas", which represents fith day of each month and "idus", which was 13th day of each month, excepting March, May, July and October, which was on 15th day.
